RS4 to lose the V8

The RS4, Audi's direct competitor to the M3 and the C63 from BMW and Mercedes-Benz respectively will be losing some of its grunt when the next generation is released. Heinz Hollerwger, Quattro GmbH's managing director recently announced that the upcoming RS4 will be dropping the naturally aspirated V8 engine.

Like its competitors, the RS4 will most likely move towards a turbocharged V6, following an industry trend towards smaller and more efficient engines. Will it utilise an electric turbocharger similar to the one found in the RS5 TDI concept? With the next generation A4 set to be introduced sometime in 2015, don't expect to see or hear too much about the RS4 until 2016 at the earliest.
